PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — The Paducah Police Department has graduated its 20th Citizens Police Academy class.
The Paducah Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1Mm5p9b ) the department celebrated the graduation Thursday night.
Police Chief Brandon Barnhill says the 13-week class is meant to provide people in the community with insight into how the police department operates.
This year's class consisted of 17 people and covered several topics including K-9s, traffic stops and state law.
Training officer Scotty Davis says students also got to do ride-alongs and go to the shooting range.
Some of the graduates are criminal justice students who are interested in police work, while others were simply curious about what the department does.
In years past, Davis says, some who completed the program have decided they want to join the force or somehow become more involved.
