GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Chris Brooks will replace injured three-time U.S. champion Sam Mikulak on the U.S. national team at the 2015 world gymnastics championships.
Mikulak, a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team and the last two world championship teams, suffered minor ankle injury in training earlier this month. USA Gymnastics has called Mikulak's prognosis "good" looking toward the 2016 Olympics.
Brooks, an alternate on the 2012 Olympic team, was a surprising third at the 2015 U.S. championships in August, his best showing in 18 months following a string of nagging injuries.
Marvin Kimble will serve as the first reserve as the U.S. tries to back up its bronze medal finish behind China and Japan at the 2014 world championships.
