WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) — One pedestrian was killed and another was injured when a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department patrol car responding to a crime call collided with another vehicle and ran off the road in West Hollywood, California.
Authorities say the two deputies who were in the patrol car were also hospitalized after the crash Thursday night.
Sheriff's Capt. Keith Swensson says the deputies were responding to a report of felony assault with the patrol car's red lights and siren operating.
The car clipped the rear of the other vehicle near Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards and jumped a curb, striking the pedestrians. After hitting the men, the patrol car struck some fixed objects, including a light pole and a tree, the sheriff's department report said. All three of the hospitalized men were said to be seriously injured and in stable condition.
The crash is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
