SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A small airport north of Salt Lake City has reopened after a $1.2 million runway renovation.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1MI3Hnt ) that Skypark Airport in Woods Cross reopened Thursday after being closed for a month.
The runway upgrade was necessary to accommodate increasing traffic, which Skypark manager Steve Durtschi says has doubled in the past two years.
Although Skypark is a private airport, state money helped pay for the project. Utah Director of Aeronautics Pat Morely says nearly 200 aircraft are based at the Woods Cross facility, making it the fourth-busiest airport in the state.
Morely says the planes and helicopters using Skypark bring money to the state through fuel tax and other fees.
Durtschi says his airport also helps relieve congestion at nearby Salt Lake City International Airport.
