MIAMI (AP) — Miami-Dade police fatally shot a 15-year-old who investigators say had robbed a drug store before threatening officers with a handgun.

Authorities identified the teen late Thursday as Jorge Santiago Tapia. Police say two officers who were pursuing the teen fired their weapons. They were not injured in the shooting early Thursday morning.

Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said investigators don't know if the teen fired his weapon.

A drug store employee called police, saying the store had been robbed at gunpoint. The employee described the getaway car and police spotted it a short time later.

The car took off as officers approached. The chase ended when a tire blew out. That's when an altercation took place. Tapia's body was inside the vehicle.

The race of those involved was not immediately known.
