SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The number of babies born in a polygamous town on the Utah-Arizona border sharply declined from 2009-2013. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that health departments recorded 467 births in 2009 in the sister cities of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona. In 2013, the number had dropped to 42. Former members of the sect say the decrease may be related to orders from imprisoned leader Warren Jeffs halting new marriages and sexual relations between those already married.
