LIVINGSTON, Ala. (AP) — The University of West Alabama needs help rebuilding its homecoming bonfire pyre after someone burned the structure ahead of schedule.

The Tuscaloosa News (http://bit.ly/1QtRTUW) quotes university administrator Richard Hester as saying a pile of about 500 wooden pallets was set ablaze early Wednesday by an unknown individual.

The university had spent weeks collecting pallets for the annual bonfire, which is among the homecoming festivities scheduled for Thursday night.

Hester says the bonfire will still go as planned. But university spokeswoman Betsy Compton says the size of the bonfire will depend on how much wood the school can gather beforehand.

Hester says the university is looking for replacement pallets, which are easy to transport and stack.
