TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State University police say a student has escaped with only minor injuries after falling from a sixth-floor balcony of a campus housing building.

Police responded to a call around 4:50 a.m. Thursday after a student falling at University Towers in Tempe.

Officers found the man on the ground responsive and conscious.

ASU police say he suffered a cut on his forehead, an injured shoulder and possibly rib bruising and was taken to a Scottsdale hospital for further evaluation.

The name and age of the student wasn't immediately released.

A witness told police that the student had locked himself out of his room and attempted to climb from one balcony to another in order to reach his room.
