BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a Box Elder County Jail inmate has died after he was found hanging in the shower area of his cell. The Deseret News reports that the man arrested on Friday has been identified as 42-year-old Christopher Witt of Layton. The sheriff's office says jail officers had seen Witt 13 minutes before he was discovered hanging in his cell yesterday afternoon.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert and state officials will work in an elementary school classroom today to learn what challenges teachers face. Herbert's office said the governor, members of his staff and several lawmakers will work as teacher's aides at Washington Elementary School in Salt Lake City.

The words of caution come as American Indians and conservation groups advocate for the creation of a national monument in the Bears Ear region in southwestern Utah to protect native lands.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A state report has found that thousands of Utah residents were unable to pay off payday loans last year, further fueling criticism that such loans are debt traps. The Salt Lake Tribune says yesterday that state data show more than 45,000 customers failed to repay the loans in the allotted 10-week period. The outstanding loans amount to nearly $18 million.
