RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Reno newspaper photographer has been arrested following an altercation with security guards at the site of a future Tesla gigafactory.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://on.rgj.com/1MkkXL4) that Storey County Sheriff's deputies booked one of their photographers, Andy Barron, on a charge of battery with a deadly weapon.

Sheriff Gerald Antinoro says security guards tried to detain Barron and he attempted to flee in his car.

Antinoro says Barron allegedly hit or almost hit one of the guards.

Reno Gazette-Journal publisher John Maher says the newspaper is taking the incident very seriously and is investigating.

Barron has worked for the newspaper since 1998.

The Gazette-Journal says a newspaper-owned vehicle sustained damaged.

The driver's side seatbelt had been cut in half and a window was shattered by a rock.
