SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State campaign finance reports show Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and Jonathan Johnson, his 2016 re-election challenger, have raised a combined $760,000 so far this year. Reports show Herbert's political action committee raised more than $313,000 through Sept. 25. Johnson's campaign manager says the PAC is raising money for other efforts in addition to Johnson's campaign.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors say a Salt Lake City man told police that he shot three people staying at his house, including a baby, because they wouldn't move out. Prosecutors have charged 32-year-old Alexander Hung Tran with three counts of aggravated murder. No attorney was immediately listed for Tran.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Public transportation ridership set a new all-time record for the Utah Transit Authority. More people took TRAX and FrontRunner trains during the week of Sept. 20 than any other time in the authority's history. Preliminary data shows there were almost 568,000 boardings from Sept. 20 to Saturday, Sept. 26. A UTA spokesman says downtown events drove commuter traffic.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah has unveiled a $36 million basketball practice facility with dramatic upgrades from what players and coaches were accustomed to inside the university's 46-year-old arena. The 90,000-square-foot building will house the men's and women's programs and features two 12,000-square-foot practice gyms, recruiting lounges, a yoga room, rooftop terrace, a nutrition center and underground tunnels to the arena. Coaches' offices have a panoramic view of the mountains.
