ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — A government official says the man who opened fire at an Oregon community college today was 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer. The official provided the name on condition of anonymity. Mercer allegedly killed nine people at Umpqua (UHMP'-kwah) Community College in Roseburg before he died during an exchange of gunfire with officers.
ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — A neighbor of the man who authorities say went on a deadly shooting rampage at an Oregon college says he "seemed really unfriendly." Bronte Hart lived below 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer in the community of Winchester. She says Mercer would "sit by himself in the dark in the balcony with this little light." Mercer died after exchanging gunfire with police.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia has executed a convicted serial killer who claimed he was intellectually disabled. Alfredo Prieto was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m. at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarrat. The 49-year-old El Salvador native was sentenced to death in Virginia in 2010 for the rape and murder of a young couple.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — A senior Mexican official says his country has agreed to expedite the extradition of drug lords and suspected criminals to the United States. It comes a day after Mexico sent two top traffickers and 11 others to the U.S. The official denies those extraditions were a response to the July 11 escape from prison by Mexican drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
NEW YORK (AP) — Hackers may have stolen personal information belonging to about 15 million T-Mobile wireless customers and potential customers in the U.S., including Social Security numbers, home addresses, birthdates and other personal information. The hackers got the information from credit reporting agency Experian, which T-Mobile uses to check the credit of consumers.
