AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Tim Scott is helping high school students learn about applying to the nation's service academies.

The South Carolina Republican is hosting twelve informational sessions throughout the state starting this week. Meetings are being held on Tuesday in Aiken and Spartanburg.

The meetings let students and their families learn about the nomination and application process and ask questions about the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy or U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Scott nominated 48 students from across South Carolina for consideration by the service academies during the last academic year.

Sessions are happening over the next two weeks in Rock Hill, Florence, Anderson, Greenwood, Sumter, Orangeburg, Hilton Head Island, Greenville, North Charleston and Columbia.
