WACO, Texas (AP) — Police say a man has been charged with resisting arrest after he crashed a vehicle through a gate at Waco Regional Airport in Texas in an attempt to steal a private jet.
Waco police say 31-year-old Robert Edward Morrell II was arrested Friday after being released from a mental health facility.
Investigators say Morrell on Sept. 17 smashed through an airport gate and onto the tarmac. The say he then tried to enter a parked Learjet. An off-duty officer working security approached Morrell, who was subdued with the help of bystanders. Police say he was carrying a stick.
The jet's owners declined to press charges. Waco police say airport officials are still assessing damages.
Online jail records do not list bond or an attorney to speak for Morrell.
