KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man has pleaded guilty to an assault charge after poisoning a woman with over-the-counter eyedrops.
The Herald and News reports (http://bit.ly/1LzOX9N ) 34-year-old Jeremy Santangelo, of Klamath Falls, pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted first-degree assault. In exchange for his guilty plea, Santangelo has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation.
Police reports say Santangelo had poisoned the food and drink of the victim between Aug. 1 and Sept. 8. The woman suffered severe illness.
Santangelo allegedly told investigators he had intended to poison the victim, claiming he had been the beneficiary in her will.
Santangelo has been required to undergo a mental health evaluation and anger management under the terms of his probation.
