FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — A Fairfax County Circuit Court judge in Virginia has ruled that a still photographer will be allowed to take pictures at the trial next month of a man charged with killing three Alexandria residents in their homes over a 10-year span.
The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1NST2aL ) reports that Judge Randy I. Bellows ruled Tuesday he was persuaded that a video camera might have negative effects on witnesses at trial of 54-year-old Charles Severance, as witnesses could potentially be given an unfair look at other people's testimony. Bellows wrote, however, that he wasn't convinced a still photographer would have the same effect.
A still photographer, but not a videographer, had been allowed to photograph the pre-trial hearings in the case.
Prosecutors say Severance shot and killed three prominent Alexandria residents dating back to 2003.
