SALT LAKE CITY — The Crimson Corner is your home for Utah football all season long. This week on the show we highlight Utah's 45-24 win over Fresno State, look ahead to the Utes matchup vs. Oregon and highlight some of the great punt and kickoff returners that have come through the program.
Here's the rundown of the show:
Utes cruise past Fresno State
We begin in Fresno where the Utes hit the road for the first time in 2015. Some thoughts were lingering that this may be a trap game with Oregon next on the schedule. But even without quarterback Travis Wilson, the Utes had no trouble with the Bulldogs.
Run game breakdown
Each Sunday on SportsBeat Hans Olsen and former Ute Christian Cox from 1280 the Zone dig into the film of each Ute game. This week they explain how the Utes were able to get the run game going and a big night for Devontae Booker.
Stevie Tuikolovatu's defensive TD
Though it was the second time in three games that the Utah defense has scored a touchdown, it actually is a pretty rare feat. We asked Tuikolovatu about his rare opportunity to celebrate in the end zone.
Special teams has a big night
Before Britain Covey celebrated his first punt return for a touchdown as a Ute, Cory Butler-Byrd had a spectacular kickoff return for a touchdown. For his efforts, Butler-Byrd was named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week. That marks three weeks in a row that a Ute has earned conference honors.
Utes look ahead to Oregon
Now it is time to move forward and a big challenge awaits the Utes on Saturday as they make the trip to Eugene to take on the 13th ranked Oregon Ducks. But who will be starting quarterback for the Ducks? Will it be Jeff Lockie or Vernon Adams? Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is guessing it will be Adams.
Game Rewind: 1994 Utah vs. Oregon
It isn't impossible to win at Autzen Stadium, just rare. The last time the Utes won there was in 1994, and we know how special that Ute team was, finishing 8th in the country. Oregon was pretty good too, winning the Pac-10 with a trip to the Rose Bowl. Here's a look back at that important win.
Around the Pac-12
Let's take a trip around the Pac-12. For many teams it proved one last tune-up before beginning conference play. For USC and Stanford, conference play came a week early.
Honoring Ute legends: Punt and kickoff returners
Special teams continues to be a strength for the Utes. If you've been a long time fan of the program you know this is nothing new. There is an impressive list of returners over the years that have dazzled us with their skills. Here is a look back at some of the best returners in Utah history.
