LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jackie Collins, the bestselling author of dozens of novels including "Hollywood Wives," has died. Her publicist says Collins died of breast cancer today in Los Angeles. She was 77. Collins' death was first reported by People magazine.
DES MOINES (AP) — Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is continuing to defend his decision not to correct a questioner at a recent town hall event who incorrectly stated that President Barack Obama is Muslim. Speaking to more than 1,000 conservative Republicans in Des Moines, Trump says that he is not obligated to defend the president.
HAVANA (AP) — Pope Francis is in Havana, where he urged the Cuban and U.S. governments to push ahead on their newly forged path toward normal relations. The pope arrived today on the first leg of a trip to the Cold War foes that papal diplomacy helped bring together. Standing with Cuban President Raul Castro by his side, Francis said developments over recent months have given him hope.
PHOENIX (AP) — A judge in Phoenix has set bail at $1 million for a landscaper arrested in a series of freeway shootings. Leslie Allen Merritt Jr. was charged with counts including aggravated assault and criminal damage. Merritt told the judge that authorities had "the wrong guy" as investigators stood by their detective work that traced the gun to the suspect after he took it to a pawn shop.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — Police say they have launched a search after a woman went over Niagara Falls. It happened around 6 p.m. Eastern time Saturday. New York State Park Police say a woman in her 40s went over the falls at Prospect Point. A spokesman says a police investigation is underway and rescuers are searching the area. The woman has not been found.
