LONDON (AP) — Arsenal says midfielder Jack Wilshere is to undergo surgery on his left fibula and is expected to be out for three months.

The decision was made after scans showed healing from the initial injury, a break in August, was not progressing as well as hoped.

The England international will have a small plate inserted into his leg.

Wilshere missed a majority of the 2014-15 season after undergoing left ankle surgery last November, returning in April for the last six games of the season.
