SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Giants ace Madison Bumgarner has lost his bid for a perfect game when pinch-hitter Melvin Upton Jr. singled for the San Diego Padres with two outs in the eighth inning.

San Francisco leads 8-0 Saturday night.

Last year's World Series MVP has thrown 102 pitches in eight innings. He has struck out eight and walked none.
