ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) — A police official says at least 19 people were killed after two buses collided on the highway linking Ivory Coast's commercial capital and the country's second-largest port.
Seydou Ouattara, police commissioner for San Pedro, said Friday the accident took place Thursday about 185 miles (300 kilometers) west of Abidjan, the country's commercial capital. He said a minibus bound for Abidjan had tried to overtake a car but ran into another bus. At least 37 others were injured in the head-on collision.
Accidents are all too common in this West African country due to poor road conditions and speeding drivers.
