CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) — A local leader in Guinea says at least seven people were killed and 12 others injured in a mudslide.
Boffa prefecture Hadja Aicha Sacko said Wednesday that they are trying to locate the bodies in the mud in Tougnifili. The village is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of the capital Conakry.
He said heavy rains caused the landslide overnight Sunday, which will also affect agriculture here. He says residents are asked to evacuate.
Government leaders are traveling to the area to see the damage caused. Guinea has seen heavy rains this year. The Guinean Red Cross said heavy rains in late July and early August also took lives and homes near the capital.
