PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — The Plattsburgh Public Library has been awarded just over $125,000 in grants from the New York state Department of Education for much-needed renovations.
WPTZ-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Fxn0Jd ) the grant is part of a department initiative to provide $14 million in funding to libraries across the state through 2017.
The library received matching grants from the Charles R. Wood Foundation and the Lake Placid Education Foundation for technology improvements.
Library director Anne de la Chapelle says many libraries only have funds to cover operating costs.
With the grant money, de la Chapelle says the library will purchase and install a new elevator. The library will also construct a "smart room" featuring a 3-D printer and smart board.
The library director says she hopes the facelift will help attract residents for years to come.
