LAS VEGAS (AP) — An engine on a British Airways jet caught fire while the plane was preparing to take off from Las Vegas, forcing passengers to escape on emergency slides. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says the plane's left engine caught fire. Billowing black smoke and orange flames could be seen pouring from the plane's wings before about 50 firefighters quickly doused the aircraft.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The district attorney in Las Vegas says a teenager arrested in the wounding of a police officer in a patrol vehicle might face adult criminal charges. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson says the 17-year-old could face up to 40 years in prison on two counts of attempted murder of a police officer with use of a deadly weapon. Names of the teen and the officers involved weren't immediately made public.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The owner of a home in Sun Valley suffered minor burns after his garage caught on fire. The homeowner whose name was not released was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor burns to his leg and face. Crews extinguished the flames before they spread to the house. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — LSD guru Timothy Leary died nearly 20 years ago, but some of his remains apparently made a trip to the Burning Man counter-culture festival in Nevada's desert. Long-time friend and actress Susan Sarandon says she brought some of Leary's ashes with her to be burned as part of last week's celebration 100 miles north of Reno.
