NEW YORK (AP) — The highest-ranked American man, John Isner, is not part of the roster for the U.S. Davis Cup team that will play at Uzbekistan on Sept. 18-20.
Captain Jim Courier announced his roster Monday, hours before 13th-seeded Isner was to face Roger Federer in the fourth round of the U.S. Open.
The U.S. team will be Jack Sock, Sam Querrey, Steve Johnson and Donald Young.
Sock retired during a U.S. Open match because of heat illness.
Isner said Saturday after winning his third-round match at Flushing Meadows that he had decided to miss this Davis Cup playoff, saying he'll need to rest and that his knee has been bothering him.
Said Isner: "Going over there not 100 percent fit I don't think would be the right choice for me."
