WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Law enforcement has seized just less than 22 pounds of heroin from suspected drug traffickers in a West Valley City raid.
Officers from the Unified Police Department's Street Crimes Unit and the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force found five vehicles with hidden compartments Wednesday. Inside the compartments they found 21.89 pounds of what officers say is pure heroin as well as 14.5 ounces of cocaine and $10,000 in cash.
Three men were arrested in connection to the seizure. They are being held without bail at the Salt Lake County jail on investigation of drug possession and distribution.
Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell says investigators are sure the drug operation was connected to one of the Mexican drug cartels, but they had not identified which one.
