SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Emery County officials are endorsing a proposal from two congressmen to convert a dinosaur fossil quarry rich in Jurassic period bones into a national monument. Making the Cleveland-Lloyd dinosaur fossil quarry into a national monument would require Congressional approval. Created in 1966, it is a national natural landmark.

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) — Authorities say they're lifting evacuations for about 30 homes near a brush fire burning at the mouth of a canyon in the Salt Lake City suburb of Cottonwood Heights. Unified Fire Authority Capt. Dan Brown says the fire moved away from homes this afternoon and officials felt it was safe enough for residents to return.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A veteran Utah prosecutor has been sworn into office as the state's new U.S. Attorney. John Huber took the oath of office in a ceremony at the federal courthouse in Salt Lake City today. Huber has worked in the U.S. Attorney's office since 2002, and previously served as a prosecutor in West Valley City and Weber County.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Another racing event has been canceled at Utah's famous Bonneville Salt Flats as organizers say there's still not enough smooth, thick salt to set up a race course. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the announcement yesterday from the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association, which organizes the World of Speed event that would have started Sept. 12.
