NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Nampa police are looking for the owners of a ball python after the reptile was found slithering across the street of a residential neighborhood. KTVB-TV reports that after officers found the snake Wednesday, they knocked on doors around the area looking for the owner but no one claimed it. The snake was taken to the West Valley Humane Society Animal Shelter. Snake owners missing their pet should call the shelter.
NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — One of three men arrested in a fatal shooting in Nampa last weekend has been charged with multiple felonies. Court records show Alberto Chavez is charged in Canyon County with second-degree murder and destroying or concealing evidence. Chavez told police Kyle Jackson was a member of a rival gang and had slashed his face with a knife.
EAGLE, Idaho (AP) — An ancient cedar grove appears to have survived a wildfire that burned through northern Idaho, leaving officials optimistic about the chances a similar stand in Montana will survive. The Spokesman-Review reports that firefighters set up a sprinkler system at the Settler's Grove near Eagle, but crews were forced to leave before setup was complete. Officials say it looks like the low-burning fire spared the trees, which are centuries old.
OREM, Utah (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul is scheduled to be in Utah on today and tomorrow for campaign events. The Kentucky senator will attend a private fundraising dinner tonight in Salt Lake City hosted by Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne. Paul will then appear at an outdoor rally in Orem tomorrow with Idaho Republican Congressman Raul Labrador.
