BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho officials aren't ruling out that new state parks could be named after private companies that give large donations or sponsorships, but a recently proposed set of rules would severely limit business' ability to acquire naming rights. Under the new rules, the board would not be allowed to consider naming a new state park simply based on the amount of a donation.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An inversion trapping smoke from a group of fires in northern Idaho near Kamiah has slowed the flames and given firefighters a chance to strengthen fire lines. Officials say crews are mopping up hot spots, but teams are mostly on patrol status on the fires that have scorched 74 square miles and destroyed 42 homes.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An 86-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting an 81-year-old woman in Twin Falls. Police have not described the relationship between 86-year-old Paul Welch and 81-year-old Barbara Chitwood. Welch was hospitalized after the shooting, but the nature of his injuries has not been released.
SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho (AP) — A caretaker at a northern Idaho assisted living facility is accused of sexually assaulting two elderly bedridden residents at the center. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports 49-year-old Phillip Ray Smalley was arrested Saturday. Spirit Lake Police Chief Keith Hutcheson says Smalley told police he has been working as a caretaker at senior facilities for nearly 30 years.
