DALLAS (AP) — Health officials say a Dallas resident who contracted the West Nile virus has died.

A city statement Tuesday announced the death, but did not provide patient details such as age, gender or date of death. The person lived in the 75214 Zip code, an area just west of White Rock Lake.

The Texas Department of State Health Service says Texas last year had 379 human cases of West Nile virus, including six deaths.

The Texas Department of State Health Services said two West Nile deaths have been reported previously in Texas this year. Tarrant County reported one on Aug. 8. Kleberg County in South Texas reported a death last month was confirmed to be West Nile-related. Both victims had underlying health issues.
