CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A Charlotte elementary school teacher has been arrested and charged with sex crimes against children.

Multiple media outlets reported that Union County sheriff's deputies arrested fifth-grade teacher Timothy Scot Olson on Aug. 13. Olson has been charged with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Olson has been suspended from his job at Polo Ridge Elementary School. He has worked for the school district since 2012.

School Ann Clark would not talk about the situation Monday except to say it is regrettable. But she said there was no indication the charges involve a student in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

No further details were available. State law says that third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor involves possessing a "visual representation of a minor engaging in sexual activity."
