SPENCER, N.C. (AP) — Gov. Pat McCrory is thanking teachers for their hard work as students on a traditional calendar return to school.

Most North Carolina students resume classes Monday.

McCrory said in a video message to educators that he knows teaching is a hard profession and that it's both a skill and a passion.

The governor recalls when he was a student teacher as a senior at Catawba College in Salisbury. He recorded the video at North Rowan High School in Spencer.
