NORTH EAST, Md. (AP) — Police say a Maryland man wanted on a warrant for theft is dead after being shot by a state trooper after a struggle.
The Maryland State Police says the shooting happened Friday evening in Cecil County. State Police say the trooper was in uniform and driving a marked patrol car through a shopping center parking lot when he saw 30-year-old Charles S. Hall of North East, Maryland.
State Police say the trooper, Daryl Brackett, knew that Hall was wanted on a theft warrant. State Police say Brackett approached Hall and attempted to arrest him, but Hall resisted and a struggle ensued.
State Police say Hall got into his car during the struggle and attempted to drive away and that Brackett fired at him. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.
