LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Nevada state prison guard has been sentenced to three years' probation for felony marijuana prison smuggling. The state attorney's office says Ronald Hunt could face up to 30 months in prison if he violates terms of his sentence. Hunt is at least the second former guard at High Desert State Prison sentenced this year in prison smuggling cases.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police are investigating a crash involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian who was badly hurt on a busy stretch of Boulder Highway. A police spokesman says a woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after the crash just north of U.S. 95. The names of the pedestrian and driver weren't immediately made public.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A man wanted in New Mexico for allegedly molesting children has been arrested in Nevada. U.S. Marshals Service officials say 55-year-old Howard Potter has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center and is pending extradition to New Mexico. It was unclear yesterday if Potter has an attorney yet.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Sen. Harry Reid says he'll do anything he can to help Gov. Brian Sandoval's tax package survive a potential challenge at the ballot. The Democratic senator said the Republican governor's work getting the $1.1 billion package through the Legislature this spring was "masterful." Opponents of the tax say the package was adopted against the will of voters who overwhelmingly rejected the margins tax on the 2014 ballot.
