LAS VEGAS (AP) — Southern Nevada is facing another two days of very hot weather. The National Weather Service's excessive heat warning remains posted through tomorrow night. It was 110 degrees yesterday at McCarran airport in Las Vegas, just shy of a record for the date. It was 111 degrees in Mesquite, which tied a record set in 1992.
GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — Two Douglas County Sheriff's patrol cars were damaged after deputies tried to stop a man accused of driving drunk in Gardnerville Sunday night. Deputies pursued the man's pickup until the suspect stopped at an intersection and then rammed his truck into two patrol vehicles. Deputies later were able to block the truck and arrest the man for investigation of felony DUI and other charges.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Those renting an apartment in the Reno area are paying more than ever before as the average monthly rent reached a record high of $889 per month. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that real estate services company CBRE says rising demand in the area has lowered some apartment vacancy rates to as low as 0.44 percent. The overall Reno-Sparks vacancy rate from April to June fell to 2.27 percent.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Talks have once again ended between a bankrupt division of casino giant Caesars Entertainment Corp. and its bank lenders as the company aims to get its creditors on board with a reorganization plan before November. In an SEC filing the company said talks ended the day before after the two sides couldn't come to an agreement on terms. Caesars has until Nov. 15 to file a reorganization plan with the court.
