London (dpa) - Two Pakistani men were given life sentences at a court in London Friday for the "barbaric" honour killing of a 25- year-old woman.

Samaira Nazir, a graduate and recruitment consultant, was knifed to death in a savage attack after she had pleaded to be allowed to marry an Afghan asylum-seeker, the Old Bailey Criminal Court was told.

Her brother, greengrocer Azhar Nazir, 30, and cousin Imran Mohammed, 17, stabbed Samaira Nazir 18 times at the family home in Southall, in south-west London in April 2005.

They warned her: "We can get you anywhere if you get married, even if you are not in this country," the court heard.

The teenager was told he must serve a minimum of 10 years in youth detention, while Nazir will be jailed for at least 20 years.

The Old Bailey heard that the Pakistani family disapproved of the Afghan asylum-seeker, accusing him of being after the young woman's money.

"This was a barbaric crime. She suffered a brutal, gruesome and horrific death," judge Christopher Moss said.
