Person fatally shot near MIT campus; no threat to campus

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Cambridge police are investigating the fatal shooting of a person in a car a few blocks from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus.

After being shot, the victim drove toward Kendall Square where the car stopped in front of a Marriott Hotel. The person was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. It happened Wednesday night.

Police say they're interviewing witnesses and continuing to search for a suspect or suspects.

No further details about the victim have been released.

MIT police say on the university's emergency webpage that they don't believe there is any threat to the university community. However, they're warning students to stay away from the area.
