FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Michael Brown Sr. says he and the family are still in mourning one year after his son's death. Brown spoke this morning a parade in Ferguson, Missouri, to honor his son, who was shot and killed by an officer last Aug. 9. About 200 people gathered at the site of the shooting that spurred a national "Black Lives Matter" movement. Brown took an armful of stuffed animals and placed them in the middle of the street where his son died.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — A suburban Dallas police officer has been placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting a college football player during a struggle. Arlington police say it happened early yesterday when officers investigating a burglary call discovered someone had driven a vehicle through a front window of a car dealership. The medical examiner's office identified the dead man as 19-year-old Christian Taylor, a sophomore at Angelo State University. Police say criminal and administrative investigations will be conducted.
BEIRUT (AP) — Activists say hundreds of Christian families are fleeing a central Syrian town as Islamic State fighters advance toward it. And they say intense clashes are taking place near a town 15 miles away that was captured by the Islamic State group on Thursday. Activists say about 230 residents of that down have been abducted in recent days, including dozens of Christians. Some were released but the fate of the others is still unknown.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban have claimed responsibility for an attack on a military base last night that killed an international service member and eight Afghan contractors. Last night's attack on Camp Integrity in Kabul followed two massive bombings in the city. The three attacks have killed at least 44 people and wounded hundreds.
GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say a Connecticut woman has been killed by a commuter train after she went onto the tracks to retrieve her purse. Tamar Louis of Stamford was killed yesterday, the day before her 29th birthday. A spokesman for the Metro-North railroad says she was sitting on the platform, dangling her legs over the edge, when an approaching train blasted its horn. The startled woman dropped her purse and went onto the tracks to get it. She was struck and killed instantly.
