CLEVELAND (AP) — Donald Trump has warned that he won't rule out a third-party run. He made the comment during the Fox News Channel Republican presidential debate in Cleveland. Trump also declined to pledge that he would support the GOP's eventual nominee. There were 10 candidates in the prime-time debate before a large, raucous crowd.
WASHINGTON (AP) — New York Sen. Chuck Schumer says that he is breaking with President Barack Obama and will oppose the Iran nuclear deal. Schumer is the No. 3 Senate Democrat and next-in-line party leader. He says his position comes "after deep study, careful thought and considerable soul-searching." He joins a handful of Jewish Democrats who have announced their opposition.
ANTIOCH, Tenn. (AP) — Police say the homeless man who attacked people at a movie theater in Tennessee on Thursday had a canister of propane, lighter fluid and a lighter -- and may have intended on setting off an explosive device. They say Vincente Montano started his attack by pepper-spraying two women who were sitting in the theater. A man who was with them intervened and was wounded by an ax that Montano was carrying. Montano also had a pellet gun. He was killed by police.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — The prosecution in the Colorado theater shooting trial says the death sentence is the only punishment that makes sense for the horrific deaths of 12 people. But in its final argument -- lawyers for James Holmes argued that death is not an appropriate sentence for someone diagnosed with schizophrenia. The same jury that convicted Holmes must decide on capital punishment or life in prison without parole.
CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Thousands of firefighters are making progress against a Northern California wildfire that has burned through more than 107 square miles of dry brush. The blaze has destroyed 43 homes. And 13,000 people have been ordered or warned to evacuate. The big blaze has been burning for more than a week. It is the largest of 23 fires statewide.
