CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Eight charter school groups are proposing to run low-performing schools in Nevada under the Achievement School District, set up this spring by Nevada lawmakers. The legislation identified 78 underperforming schools and asks private groups to operate them as charter schools. Full applications are due in a few weeks.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Police have apprehended the second of two teenagers who escaped earlier this week from a juvenile justice center in Elko County. Police say the 16-year-old boy was apprehended at an Elko apartment yesterday and arrested on a warrant issued by the Nevada Youth Training Center. The other teen was arrested shortly after the escape.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say security video shows a 46-year-old man hiding between cars before fatally stabbing his estranged girlfriend outside a Las Vegas pharmacy. Josie Jones killed last night and her former boyfriend, Leonard Woods, surrendered to police a few hours later. Police say Jones' 15-year-old daughter witnessed the attack.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — President Barack Obama will take part in a fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto in Las Vegas later this month. The dinner will be held Aug. 24, the same day the president is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas.
