ANTIOCH, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities in Tennessee say the man who pepper-sprayed a movie theater in suburban Nashville was a former mental patient. According to police, 29-year-old Vincente Montano had been committed four times for psychiatric treatment. Montano was shot dead by a SWAT team as he tried to flee the theater. He was also armed with a hatchet and carrying a pellet gun.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — It won't be long for the world will know the fate of James Holmes, the man who killed 12 people and wounded 70 others three years ago inside a suburban Denver movie theater. Jurors will begin deliberating the sentence Thursday or Friday after the last round of closing arguments. He will either face life in prison without parole or death.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is ripping into critics of the Iran nuclear agreement, accusing them of "selling a fantasy" to the American people. Speaking today at American University, Obama warned Congress that blocking the accord would damage the nation's credibility and increase the likelihood of more war in the Middle East.
MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — The United States is lifting restrictions that required the Nicaraguan government to seek an annual waiver to get access to international credit and bilateral assistance. It follows the resolution of property claims by U.S. citizens. The contested properties were seized by the Sandinista government in the 1980s.The restrictions have been in place since the 1990s.
HIROSHIMA, Japan (AP) — Japan is marking the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. And the city's mayor is renewing calls for world leaders to step up efforts toward making a nuclear weapons free world. A minute of silence was observed at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at a ceremony in Hiroshima's peace park. It's the exact moment when the bomb struck the city in 1945.
