PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — A New York prison employee has pleaded guilty to helping two killers escape last month. Joyce Mitchell, a tailor shop instructor at Clinton Correctional Facility, was jailed shortly after Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped on June 6. Matt was shot and killed three weeks later. Sweat was captured and sent to another prison. Mitchell admitted providing hacksaw blades, chisels, a punch tool and a screwdriver to Matt. Authorities say she agreed to be their getaway driver but backed out at the last moment. She faces a sentence ranging from 2 1/3 years to 7 years in prison.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry is warning members of Congress of the consequences if they vote to disapprove the nuclear deal negotiated with Iran. He says Tehran will move forward toward an atomic bomb, international sanctions will crumble and the U.S. will be left without with any of the access and inspections that are part of the deal. House Republicans oppose the deal and Eliot Engel, the ranking Democrat on the committee, suggested that the deal might just be pushing the "pause button" on Iran getting a nuclear weapon for 15 years.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Presidential hopeful Rand Paul says Senate leaders have told him the chamber will vote on his effort to block federal aid to Planned Parenthood before lawmakers begin their August break. The Kentucky Republican says win or lose, having the vote will be a victory for anti-abortion conservatives. Paul's effort seems a long-shot because he will need 60 Senate votes to prevail. House Republicans don't plan a vote. Planned Parenthood has been under fire since some of its officials have appeared in videos, secretly recorded by an anti-abortion group, discussing procedures for obtaining fetal tissue for research.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal safety investigators say the crash of a Virgin Galactic spaceship last year was caused by a catastrophic structural failure -- triggered when the co-pilot unlocked the craft's braking system early. The National Transportation Safety Board investigators say the resulting aerodynamic forces caused the brakes to actually be applied without any further action by the crew. The NTSB began its hearing today into what caused the spaceship to break apart over the Mojave Desert during a test flight 10 months ago. The accident killed the co-pilot and seriously injured the pilot.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — One of Bill Cosby's accusers is questioning his self-proclaimed ability to "read" women's cues in sexual situations. In a court filing, a lawyer for Andrea Constand points out that Cosby didn't even recognize that Constand was gay. Court documents show that she was dating a woman at the time. Constand was the accuser in the only sex assault case that Cosby has settled. She accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her at his Philadelphia-area home. The parties in that case now accuse each other of breaking the confidentiality clause.
