SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The co-founder of one of Utah's largest ski resorts has died.
A spokesman says that Snowbird co-founded Richard "Dick" Bass died of pulmonary fibrosis Sunday at his home in Dallas. He was 85.
Snowbird spokesman Brian Brown says Bass co-founded the resort in 1971 with Ted Johnson. Bass owned Snowbird until last year, when he sold it Ian Cumming, a Wyoming businessman whose family owns a series of Utah ski areas.
A native of Tulsa Oklahoma, Bass decided to start Snowbird after visiting the Salt Lake City-area site with Johnson and being impressed by the quality of the snow and variety of the terrain.
Bass was also an avid climber who scaled the world's highest peaks. He is survived by wife and family.
