This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Dr. Cody Faerber of Canyon View Animal Health Center in Perry would be the first to tell you that it's more than a love of animals that motivates someone to become a veterinarian. It's the whole idea of being able to heal, of taking a sick animal and helping them feel better. He learned to love animals as a teenager while working at his grandpa's farm in Southern Utah which later became his motivation to become a veterinarian. He opened Canyon View 11 years ago and now has 17 employees.
An important trend in America is increased spending on pet care since pets are seen as a member of the family. According to the American Pet Products Association, this year we're projected to spend an estimated $60 billion plus on pet care and products, including almost $16 billion in veterinary care. Cody is experiencing this firsthand at Canyon View Animal Health Center.
The specialty at Canyon View Animal Health Center is small-animal surgery and medicine, although they also offer grooming and boarding. With Dr. Faerber's farm experience, they bought a large ambulatory system to expand their range of services to include horses, sheep, cattle and goats. Plus, Canyon View offers a mobile pet service, so if a pet is too sick to be moved, the doctor and the hospital can come to you.
Veterinary work today is increasingly high-tech. Canyon View Animal Health provides a broad range of high-quality medical care from ultrasounds to digital x-rays and in-house blood work. Their digital x-ray can compete with human hospitals on levels of detail and clarity.
Dr. Faerber says one of the most important factors to set Canyon View Animal Health Center apart is how much the doctor and the staff care about each animal that comes to the clinic. They get to know you and your pet, so they can offer the best advice, providing a level of personal care you can feel. That's one reason Canyon View Animal Health Clinic has expanded from Perry to include another location in Tremonton.
