PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — A former long-term substitute teacher at Pendleton High School has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a student.
The East Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/6d1DfE ) 27-year-old Timothy Frey avoided prison in a plea deal with prosecutors, but must spend a lifetime on the sex-offender registry.
Frey also has to spend 15 years on probation, do 160 hours of community service and forfeit his teaching license.
According to district documents, Frey was a substitute teacher in Pendleton schools for 102 days between Feb. 24, 2014, and March 13, 2015. The charges state that Frey started having sex with a 17-year-old female student on the last day of his tenure, and the relationship continued for several weeks.
Frey apologized to the victim's family at Thursday's hearing.
Umatilla County Judge Christopher Brauer ordered Frey to have no contact with the victim.
