KAZAN, Russia (AP) — Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates will host the 2020 swimming short-course world championships.
The FINA Bureau made the decision Wednesday in Kazan, Russia, where the long-course worlds open Friday.
The others finalists for the competition in a 25-meter pool were Astana, Kazakhstan; and Lima, Peru.
The 2016 event is scheduled for Windsor, Ontario; and the 2018 meet will be held in Hangzhou, China.
The UAE already hosted the 2010 short-course worlds in Dubai.
FINA president Julio Maglione says, "We are very happy to return to the UAE. ... I am sure that Abu Dhabi will be also a memorable milestone for the FINA family."
