WARREN, Pa. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service has closed the Kinzua Beach swimming area and Twin Lakes in the Allegheny National Forest due to unhealthy E. coli levels in the water.
The bacteria comes from human and animal waste and often rises in waterways due to runoff from heavy rains.
The Forest Service closed the swim area along the Kinzua Reservoir indefinitely on Thursday. The Twin Lakes closure was added Friday.
Both will reopen when weekly tests show the water is safe to swim in.
Officials say beaches and other activities are still allowed at Kasutha and Loleta lakes in the national forest.
