BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Gov. Butch Otter knew for months that the federal government had withheld funding for Idaho's now-failed school broadband program, even though lawmakers remained in the dark until much later. According to a letter obtained by The Associated Press, Otter wrote to one of the program's contractors in November, that funding had stopped because of a whistleblower complaint. However, state lawmakers weren't informed until near January. Otter's spokesman denied that the governor had given instructions not to tell lawmakers.

BRUNEAU, Idaho (AP) — The Bureau of Land Management believes two new wildfires near Bruneau were started by lightning on Saturday. The Idaho Statesman reports one of the fires burned about 300 acres south of Bruneau before it was put out by fire crews. A second fire about 20 miles to the south, burned about 1,000 acres in a few hours.

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A district judge has dismissed the charge against a 72-year-old Wilder man accused of sexually touching a 15-year-old girl. The judge has declared the man unfit for trial. The Idaho Press Tribune reports that after Victor Charles was charged last year and pleaded not guilty, his defense attorney filed a motion for a mental health examination. A doctor determined he was only "marginally competent" to stand trial.

SUN VALLEY, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. Olympic Committee has approved four new training sites in central Idaho. The Idaho Mountain Express newspaper reports that Sun Valley will open Olympic training sites for alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, freeride skiing and snowboarding starting this summer. Previously, the Sun Valley location was just approved for Nordic skiers.
