UNDATED (AP) — Football fans are mourning the loss of one of the most colorful players of the 70's. Kenny Stabler passed away last night at the age of 69 following complications from colon cancer. He was known as "The Snake" because of the way he would run around defenders. Stabler was the NFL's MVP in 1974 and led the Raiders to victory in the 1977 Super Bowl.

LONDON (AP) — The Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich)-Richard Gasquet (ree-SHARD' gas-KAY') semifinal at Wimbledon is under way. Top seed Djokovic won the opening set 7-6 and has an early lead in the second. The second semifinal has Andy Murray playing Roger Federer.

NEW YORK (AP) — The world champion U.S. women's soccer team is being honored today with a parade through the Canyon of Heroes in New York City. The parade will come to an end at city hall but only after the 23 players have been cheered by thousands lining the streets and looking down from skyscrapers.

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — The second round of the U.S. Women's Open is under way in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. There was a three-way tie for the lead at the end of the opening round involving Karrie (KAHR'-ee) Webb, Jane Park and Marina Alex as each opened with 4-under 66s. World No. 1 Inbee Park stood 2-under at the end of first-round play.

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) — Qualifying is taking place today for tomorrow night's Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway. The winner of the race a year ago was Brad Keselowski. The race is Jeff Gordon's final time to get a win in Sparta, Kentucky, on a track he has been shut out on.
