MADRID (AP) — Spain says Tommy Robredo has replaced David Ferrer in its Davis Cup team that will travel to Vladivostok to play Russia in a Europe-Africa zone second-round tie next week.

Captain Conchita Martinez made the decision after seventh-ranked Ferrer underwent a medical checkup on the elbow injury which forced him to miss Wimbledon.

In a statement, Martinez thanked Ferrer for "his desire at all times to help the team," and wished him a speedy recovery.

Ferrer has not played for Spain since 2012.

Martinez also said Jaume Antoni Munar replaced Daniel Gimeno as the fifth player in the team.

The tie between Russia and Spain, who share seven Davis Cup titles and are trying to return to the World Group, is from July 17-19.
